Let's stick to the basics for now. There are always two fees that you pay to accept credit cards; the discount rate and the swipe or transaction fee. The discount rate is a percentage of all your monthly credit card volume. The swipe fee is a flat rate you pay for each transaction regardless of the dollar amount. Other fees you may have include statement fees, maintenance fees, warranty fees, and miscellaneous fees.
